SDA (Specialist Disability Accommodation) is purpose-built housing funded by the NDIS for participants with extreme functional impairment or very high support needs. SDA includes specialist design features and is built to specific standards.
There are four SDA design categories:
- Improved Liveability – Enhanced physical access and features for independent living
- Fully Accessible – Full physical access for people who use wheelchairs
- Robust – Durable construction for participants with complex behaviors
- High Physical Support – For people requiring highest levels of physical support
SDA funding covers the building cost, not support workers. Participants need SDA funding approved in their NDIS plan to access this accommodation type.
